Nothing seems to go right for me.
I hate my life.
I am no good and can’t seem to get anything right.
That was what she said silently as she muttered along in her hum-drum of a day that was filled with lifeless routines and bad habits, just waiting for the 5 o’clock hour to roll around until she could bust away from her desk’s ball and chain and go find something to live for.
As she moves through her day in a mere existence, her body is filled with achiness and her mind is filled with anxiety, worry, and boredom. Anxiety that she will never get her endless to-do list completed. Worry that she is never going to be enough for the onlookers. Boredom from being stuck in a routine that no longer sets her heart on fire.
That was what she never said, rather became — a woman of heaviness and pessimism on the inside. But the view from the outside told a different story.
From the outside, she looks like she has it all together. She walks with her head held high and an air of confidence. Wearing the perfect outfit with beautifully done makeup and hair, she turns the heads of many. The house is spotless and the laundry always washed. Her coworkers whisper with envy about how damn organized she is.
Yet, there is an emptiness in her eyes and a void in her heart. She is suffering silently.
Do you know this woman?
I know many of these women — They surround me everyday. These women are every age and live all over the world. Yet, they are all one in the frustration and suffering of the disconnect from life’s beauty.
And that disconnect totally disconnects us from accomplishing greatness in our own lives. They can not co-exist. Passion breeds inspiration. Inspiration breeds forward movement!
Here are 3 ways to ignite your passion:
- Tend to your daily gratitude garden. November is gratitude month and this is the perfect time to dig deep into your heart and start to look at the world in a brighter light. Gratitude opens and warms the heart. It creates pleasant emotions and visuals, in turn, creating more passion and heart expansion. Try looking past the positive thinking of rainbows and unicorns, rather dig deep into your soul and grow your appreciation for what is — what already exists. Two of my favorite ways to practice my daily gratitude is by journaling or carrying an object to connect me into what I am grateful for.
- Change the beat of your hum-drum. What is worse than the 5 o’clock road rage and rush hour traffic on your work commute? Not remembering the drive itself! Humans are creatures of habit. That is super effective when you are trying to get things done. But, it sure can drive you straight into Dull Town in no time. Try changing up your habits—drive a different way to work, brush your teeth with the opposite hand, take a different workout class than your norm. Shake things up to get your brain exploring options outside your daily boundaries and to create habit changes.
- Invest in yourself. Treat yourself, treat your brain. Learn something fun in the meantime. When is the last time that you took that class your were dying to take or invested in that course that you knew would propel your forward? Investing in ways that will build you up and make you a stronger person not only empowers you, but it also ignites the passion that drives your life purpose. You could go back to school, take an online course, sign up for a gym membership, or buy that book that aligns to where you want to grow in life. Not only will you be investing in building yourself, but you will also be investing yourself socially by meeting other people that can help to expand your mind and propel you out of your rut.
